Scott Spiker’s The Litekeeper will be auctioned on Sept. 29

Focus on Youth’s 3rd Annual Auction will be a celebration of extraordinary fine photography, fine art, (Please check out our Gallery of Auction Images) wine, music and people! Proceeds from the auction will support student scholarships and art education for challenged and disadvantaged youth in our community.

Business leaders, photographers, wine aficionados, and other fun people with extraordinary good taste will gather to support Focus on Youth Photography Project for at-risk youth.  The evening will include sales of exquisite photographs created by regional and nationally-known photographers, spa and getaway packages, restaurant gift certificates, and other delightful indulgences.

Deer Hollow, the vacation rental owned by our board chairman Larry McDonald is in the auction mix again. The package which sold twice over last year, includes a week in the beautifully furnished house (November 1-May 31/space available) with a welcome package of wine, a gift certificate for a nearby restaurant, munchies, locally made candy, and other goodies.

Guests will enjoy no-host wine, live music, and delicious hors d’oeuvres from Portland’s famed and fabulous Wildwood Restaurant .

The biggest news is certainly that Frame Central Pearl will once again be our lead sponsor, offering not only framing support but assistance in marketing and outreach as well. Kelly Carver, one of last year’s honorary co-chairs, is secure on his Focus on Youth pedestal.

This year, we’ve decided we’ll have a “Buy Board” for a number of items, including our restaurant gift certificates and we have some exciting donations to report-  Southpark Seafood Grill is joining us with a gift certificate again this year, as is the Newport Seafood Grill group. This is great news for seafood lovers (and who in Portland isn’t?). The most recent addition to the dining board is the hugely popular Beaches Restaurant and Bar, with operations on the river beach in Vancouver and at PDX Airport. We expect more news on this phase of the auction in the next couple of weeks so please stay in touch. Newly added to our restaurant support – Laurelhurst Market Restaurant & Butcher Shop. New addition to the restaurant listMother’s Bistro & Bar, and thanks to the ever-generous Lisa Schroeder.

Our WineWall is off and running as well, with three very upscale bottles from Le Cuvier Winery, a subscription-only boutique winery in Paso Robles. We can guarantee more information on the wine wall shortly after the Fourth of July.

Join a distinguished group of photographers and other generous individuals and business who will donate items for the auction this year!

Artists and photographers are encouraged to donate work, since the sale of artworks has been the most important single element of our fundraising. Since so many photographers are core to our activities andattend the event, we also need other items to include as individual items or for inclusion in packages- weekend getaways, restaurant and retail gift certificates, spa and makeup treatments, fine wines and tasting opportunities, and personal services are some examples. Proceeds from the auction will go directly to our fund scholarships for disadvantaged youth. You will receive promotion on our website. To donate, contact Donna Lee Holmes at 503.341.6878 or check back to this page for a donor form that will appear soon.

Join an enthusiastic crew of volunteers before, during, and after the auction itself!

AUCTION 2011

Dear Friends,

Thank you for supporting the arts and at-risk youth by donating and attending our 2nd Annual Auction.  The event was a tremendous success and we raised over $14,000 for scholarships for low-income youth to participate in our photography workshops for free!   We wish to thank all of our many volunteers, including our Auction Chair, Larry McDonald who led and inspired all of us.  We also wish to thank our Honorary Co-Chairs, Kelly Carver and David Greenberg for their support in making our event a success. Thank you  to  our sponsors, Frame Central, The Standard and Fred Meyer.   We especially want to acknowledge Bob Speltz of  The Standard for purchasing the photograph by our student Roman, and Larry McDonald and Greg Jakovina for donating $1,000 towards a college scholarship for Roman.

Our event was made possible because of the generosity of all of the photographers who donated their beautiful images, our students and local businesses.  We are grateful to Wildwood Chef Dustin Clark, and Shelly Jones for donating the delicious hors d’oeuvres and Grey For Days for providing the music.  A very special thank you to our web designer Doug Crouch for his fabulous work designing and updating the Focus on Youth website.

Yours Truly,

Donna Lee Holmes, FOY Executive Director
